CWA seeks refund of garbage collection charges

Times News NetworkMembers of the Citizens Welfare Association (CWA), Panchkula, have raised serious concerns over the MC’s decision to waive garbage collection charges for certain years, even as thousands of residents had already deposited the fees. The Association urged Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, director general of Urban Local Bodies Mukul Kumar, Panchkula mayor Sham Lal Bansal, and MC commissioner Vinay Kumar to refund the money collected from residents under garbage collection charges for the years 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26.According to the Citizens Welfare Association (CWA), the MC waived garbage collection charges for the financial years 2023-24 and 2024-25. The civic body also reportedly waived these charges for 2025-26, despite more than 80% of residents having already paid their dues.CWA President SK Nayar alleged that the policy has created inequality among residents, as those who paid the charges have not received refunds or adjustments, while others have benefited from the waiver.
