Ahmedabad: Customs officials at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport on Wednesday seized 566 boxes of foreign-made cigarettes, which were being brought in without due customs duties being paid.“Based on suspicious X-ray images of checked-in baggage, officers of Customs Ahmedabad intercepted three passengers at the arrival hall of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA), Ahmedabad, who had arrived from Dubai,’ according to a release by the department.“Upon detailed examination of their baggage, foreign-origin cigarettes were found concealed therein. The goods recovered included 280 boxes (56,000 sticks) of Mond brand and 286 boxes (57,200 sticks) of Gudang Garam brand,” the release added.The officials said the cigarettes have been seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
