Yamunanagar: Cradling her four-year-old son, a woman desperately ran from a knife-wielding attacker but was chased down and fatally stabbed in front of the horrified child and neighbours in Jagadhri on the outskirts of Yamunanagar on Wednesday evening.The attacker had earlier molested the woman, family sources said. Jagadhri City SHO inspector Virender Singh said, “Accused Sajan is absconding and efforts are being made to arrest him.”The woman was taking a walk in the locality with her son around 5.45pm when Sajan accosted her, her family said. On seeing the knife in his hand, she started running and entered a neighbour’s house, but he chased her down and repeatedly stabbed her in the head, neck, arms, abdomen and waist, police said.She shielded her son from the attack but suffered fatal injuries. She was taken to Civil Hospital, where she died during treatment. Police and forensic specialists examined the crime scene and collected samples.The woman’s husband told police that Sajan had frequent run-ins with the family and had previously faced a case for molesting her. Though both families reached a ‘compromise’ in the case, Sajan allegedly attacked the husband with a rod five months ago, leading to another case.Police have named Sajan in an FIR for murder and house trespass and are searching for him.
