GURGAON: A suspected cow smuggler was injured in an encounter with police in Haryana’s Nuh district after a vehicle carrying cattle allegedly broke through a police blockade on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and attempted to flee.According to police, a team chased the suspects after they ignored signals to stop and sped away from the checkpoint.During the pursuit, the occupants of the vehicle allegedly opened fire on the police party. In retaliatory action, one of the suspects, identified as Aslam, son of Ibrahim and a resident of Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh, sustained a bullet injury in his left leg.Police said another suspect managed to escape during the operation and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.“The encounter took place near Badi Kothi under the jurisdiction of the CIA unit in Punhana. Following the exchange of fire, police apprehended the injured suspect and recovered a pickup vehicle, a country-made pistol, live cartridges and five cattle from the spot,” police spokesperson Krishna said.The injured accused was shifted to Shahid Hasan Khan Medical College in Nalhar, Nuh, where he is undergoing treatment.Police said the recovered cattle were rescued safely and further investigation is in progress. A search operation has been launched to nab the absconding suspect and ascertain the wider network involved in the alleged cattle smuggling activity.
