Krishnanagar: A Krishnanagar court on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra for failing to appear before it despite repeated summonses. The court directed that an execution report of the warrant be submitted on Aug 28.A case was filed against Moitra alleging she insulted women and delivered hate speech, following which pre-cognisance summonses were issued to her.Noting she had failed to turn up, third judicial magistrate at Krishnanagar court Dibyendu Das ordered that an arrest warrant be issued against Moitra immediately. The magistrate had on Tuesday directed the TMC MP to appear the next day, but recorded her absence.“The series of disobedience of the order of this court… goes to show the lackadaisical approach of the accused to comply with the court order and accordingly this court is left with no other option but to issue a warrant of arrest against her,” the court said. The magistrate noted that Moitra’s lawyer said she would not appear before the court at any point, holding that she had “no respect for the court of law”.Moitra had obtained interim protection from Calcutta High Court in July in another case concerning alleged objectionable remarks. The high court directed her to cooperate with the probe and appear before the investigating officer on Aug 14, while restraining coercive action till Oct 5.Moitra did not issue a statement. Her party colleague and MP Dola Sen said: “We believe in the Constitution and the law of the land. We believe that the law will take its own course. We also believe that dictatorship never has the last word. With due respect to the Krishnanagar court, I am telling you people that the law of the land, the Constitution, justice and truth will have the last word.”
