Varanasi: In memory of the glorious success of Indian armed forces and to pay tributes to martyrs, many events were organised in the city on the occasion of 27th Kargil Victory Day on Sunday.At a ceremony on District Ex-Servicemen Welfare and Rehabilitation Office campus, participants paid tributes to the brave martyrs under the leadership of Group Captain Ashok Pandey, Vayu Sena Medal (Veerta) (Apra). Kargil warriors, former soldiers, soldiers’ dependents and office staff attended the ceremony.The programme began with garlanding and offering floral tributes to the portraits of the martyred soldiers. Kargil warrior Aleem Ali, Ajay Kumar Singh and Veer Nari Pramila Devi were garlanded and presented shawls. The soldiers shared their war experiences. Speakers recalled the courage, valour, sacrifice and martyrdom of Indian soldiers and said that even in difficult circumstances, the army protected the country’s borders and enhanced the nation’s pride.

On this occasion, soldiers were given the message to always remain ready to protect the nation’s unity, integrity and sovereignty. Under the ‘One Tree in the name of Mother’ scheme, tree plantation was also carried out in the office premises. Group Captain Ashok Pandey described the contribution of the Thal, Jal and Vayu Sena in the Kargil War as inspiring. About 150 former soldiers and dependents present in the programme resolved to always remember the sacrifice of the martyrs.Under the leadership of BJP Kashi Kshetra Pichhda Varg Morcha vice-president Anup Jaiswal, the 136th edition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme was broadcast at Kodayi Chowki, Nayi Sadak, in which tributes were paid to the Kargil martyrs.
