Hyderabad: Counter Intelligence (CI) Cell has written to X platform, seeking details of the handle ‘Telugu Scribe,’ accusing it of posting objectionable content. The notice was issued under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The letter, dated April 18 and signed by deputy inspector general of police R Bhaaskaran, was later posted online by Telugu Scribe after reportedly being shared with them by X. “Telugu Scribe on X is frequently making posts containing highly objectionable and filthy language along with morphed videos and photos. This behaviour not only undermines the dignity of a public figure but also has the potential to incite hatred and violence,” the DIG wrote. He urged X to intervene, saying: “These posts not only damage the reputation of the individuals involved but also incite public unrest and violate several legal provisions. It is essential to identify the suspect behind these unlawful activities to prevent further harm and ensure that appropriate legal action can be taken.” As part of the probe, CI Cell sought account registration details, usage logs, activity records, and other relevant data. The notice cited section 94 of BNSS (summons to produce documents) and section 43F of UAPA (obligation to furnish information). However, the communication did not specify whether a formal case had been registered against the account.The CI Cell, which is primarily tasked with anti-terror intelligence gathering, has now widened its scope to include monitoring of online activity, underscoring growing official concern over the spread of abusive and potentially inflammatory content on social media platforms.
