Costlier copper keeps festive light sales flat

‎Lucknow: An estimated Rs 10 crore worth of decorative lights were sold till Dhanteras evening on Friday. The revenue is almost equal to the sales in 2025.According to traders, the volume of sales dropped because of an increase in the cost of lights due to a spike in prices of copper, with consumers opting for budget-friendly options. However, since prices were high, the sales in terms of revenue touched last year’s mark.‎Pawan Manocha, president of the Uttar Pradesh Traders Coordination Committee, said, “The festive lights market has not seen the usual year-on-year expansion. Copper has become costlier, pushing up the prices of decorative lighting products by around 20%. This has altered consumer buying patterns. The higher cost made it difficult for traders to achieve the sales growth they had anticipated.”
