Core subjects trouble Class 12 students; physics, statistics see highest failures

Ahmedabad: A detailed analysis of the Class 12 board examination results has revealed that students across both science and general streams struggled the most in core academic subjects, with physics and statistics emerging as the most challenging.In the science stream, physics recorded the highest number of failures. Of the 1,10,990 students who appeared for the subject, 94,643 cleared it, while 16,347 failed. Chemistry also witnessed a significant number of failures, with 15,601 students unable to pass out of 1,10,976 candidates.Biology showed relatively better performance, with 58,365 students passing out of 65,648, resulting in a pass percentage of 88.9%. However, 7,283 students still failed in the subject. Mathematics students performed comparatively well, registering a 92.8% pass rate, with 42,070 students passing and 3,285 failing out of 45,355 candidates.Other subjects in the science stream also reported failures, indicating broader academic challenges. Computer science saw 920 students failing, while English (second language) recorded 4,149 failures.In the general stream, statistics emerged as the toughest subject, with 12,361 students failing. Accountancy followed with 9,331 failures, while 8,614 students could not clear English.Several other subjects also reported notable failure figures, including 5,445 in economics; 6,205 in organization of commerce; 4,286 in philosophy, 4,928 in Gujarati (first language); 2,835 in Sanskrit, 4,913 in psychology; 2,404 in sociology; 2,332 in geography and 1,385 in Hindi. Additionally, 2,358 students failed in computer studies.
