Dibrugarh: Assam Police on Sunday destroyed seized heroin, cannabis and thousands of Yaba tablets in Lakhimpur, Charaideo and Majuli districts, in compliance with legal and environmental guidelines.In Lakhimpur, 151.5 grams of heroin and 1,955.08 kg of cannabis were burnt at the police reserve premises. Lakhimpur SSP Gunendra Deka said, “The destruction sends a clear message that Assam Police has zero tolerance towards drug menace.”In Majuli, police destroyed 115.919 kg of seized cannabis, “We have followed all due procedures for the safe and transparent disposal of the seized narcotics. Today’s disposal reflects our resolve to keep Majuli free from narcotics.,” district SSP Subhadarsini said.In Charaideo, more than 10,000 Yaba tablets, 50 kg of cannabis and heroin were destroyed under SSP Surjeet Singh Panesar’s watch. “These consignments including 10,000 plus Yaba tablets were seized in the last one year. Destroying them is a crucial step in ensuring they never re-enter circulation,” Panesar said.
