Cop held for aiding cattle smugglers with alerts about checks

Varanasi: Police constable Satyendra Yadav, 26, suspended from Saiyyedraja police station on charges of corruption, was arrested by Chandauli police on Monday.Chandauli SP Akash Patel said that on Monday evening, during interrogation and checking of call detail records of a recently arrested cattle smuggler, it came to light that Yadav was facilitating cattle smugglers to cross the UP border safely by giving them alerts regarding police movement. Teams were formed under in charge of Chandauli and Iliya police stations, who arrested Yadav of Ambedkarnagar from Sammanpur area of the same district. Following his suspension, case was lodged under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act registered at Saiyedraja police station.Investigation brought to light that he facilitated cattle smugglers cross Chandauli border and enter Bihar by providing updates and alerts regarding police location, police patrolling and safe routes for smuggling. In return, Yadav was earning money from the cow smugglers, through online and offline payments, said the SP.Highlighting action against cattle smugglers taken by Chandauli police in 2025, he said that a total of 162 cases were lodged against four accused. Police recovered 1,297 cattle and 90 kg beef and seized 178 vehicles. Of those held, 17 accused were booked under the Goonda Act and 38 under the Gangster Act. In 1 case and their property worth Rs 73,96,820 was seized.This year, he said, 46 cases against 127 accused were registered in connection with cattle smuggling. As many as 345 cattle were rescued and 55 vehicles were seized so far. He said names of accomplices of Yadav had also come to light. The drive against cattle smugglers will be intensified while detection of black moles in the department will also continue, said the SP.
