Cook’s wife arrested in ₹1.5 cr theft case

Lucknow: What began as a relationship built on trust over 12 years ended in a major theft investigation, with police alleging that a cook and his wife systematically stole cash and jewellery worth around Rs 1.5 crore from their employer’s home and used the proceeds to build assets.Mahanagar police on Sunday arrested the accused woman from Sitamarhi district in Bihar in connection with the theft of Rs 50 lakh cash and jewellery worth nearly Rs 1 crore from a house in Metro City, Paper Mill Colony. Her husband had been working as a cook at the complainant’s residence for over a decade.According to SHO AK Mishra, investigators suspect the couple carried out the thefts on multiple occasions rather than in a single incident. Police said the woman would occasionally visit Lucknow and allegedly joined her husband in stealing cash and valuables, taking advantage of their familiarity with the household.“A bank account linked to the accused containing around Rs 60 lakh has been frozen,” the SHO said.
