State gold medallist Garvita Sharma fails to make it to the Rajasthan team for the forthcoming National Taekwondo Championship slated to be held in Pune from Aug 16 to 21

Jaipur: A controversy has erupted regarding the non-selection of Rajasthan taekwondo player Garvita Sharma for the forthcoming National Taekwondo Championship slated to be held in Pune, Maharashtra from August 16 to 21.Manoj Sharma, the father of state taekwondo championship gold medallist Garvita, has questioned the selection process by sending a legal notice to the office bearers of the Rajasthan Taekwondo Association. Through advocate Bhanu Pratap Singh, notice has been issued to the secretary of the association, Shahnawaz Khan, and technical director Bhanu Pratap Yadav.According to the notice, Garvita won a silver medal in the 2nd Jaipur District Taekwondo Championship and a gold medal in the 5th Sub-Junior and Senior State Taekwondo Championship 2026. Her father claimed that along with paying the fee of Rs 5,500 for Pune’s national championship, travel tickets were also booked.The family members of Garvita have said that they also approached the state sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore but they did not get any response from him.It is alleged that on August 6, information was given regarding special selection trials on August 8 and 9. Among eight female contenders, trials were conducted only for the under-46 kg category in which Garvita competes.
