Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board has approved a substantial increase in educational assistance for children of registered construction workers, besides introducing cash awards for meritorious students.Under the revised scheme, financial assistance has been enhanced for students from Class I to postgraduate level, with significant increases for those pursuing professional courses such as BTech, MBBS and other degree programmes.To promote academic excellence, the board has also approved a merit award scheme for students of Classes X, XI and XII. Students scoring 85% or above will receive cash awards ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh, depending on their performance.A UT spokesperson said the initiative aims to improve access to quality education, reduce dropout rates and encourage students to pursue higher studies.The board also approved enhanced benefits under several welfare schemes, including pension, maternity assistance, Kanyadaan assistance, toolkit/bicycle assistance and fixed-deposit assistance for daughters.In addition, a new OPD Refund Scheme has been introduced for registered construction workers and their families..
