Chandigarh: Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday said the people of Punjab were ready to bring the BJP to office, alleging that the “wrong policies” of the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had pushed the state backwards.Addressing public representatives from Nawanshahr at Sant Kabir Kutir, Saini urged the people of Punjab to unite against drugs and support efforts to make the state drug-free and economically strong. He said a yatra was being taken out with the aim of freeing Punjab from the drug menace. The chief minister also welcomed a group led by tempo union president Kamaljit Rana into the BJP.Saini alleged that the AAP govt had proved to be “more corrupt” than the Congress and had failed the people. He said Punjab was once a leading state and was known as the sacred land of Gurus, saints, martyrs and bravehearts, but had suffered due to poor governance. He said the Congress and AAP had promised jobs for youth, corruption-free and drug-free governance and farmers’ welfare, but people had been disappointed by these “hollow promises”. He claimed Punjab had earlier rejected the Congress over its policies and would now do the same to the AAP.Referring to AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, Saini said the party had sought votes in the name of honesty, employment for 20 lakh youth and Shaheed Bhagat Singh, but had “betrayed” the people. He alleged that invoking Bhagat Singh’s name to make “false promises” amounted to insulting the martyr and said the party should apologise to the people of Punjab.Saini said AAP was no longer an “Aam Aadmi” party but had become a “Khaas Aadmi” party with no concern for the youth. He said that if voted to office in Punjab, the BJP would implement development and welfare policies on the lines of Haryana.Highlighting Haryana govt initiatives, Saini said the BJP govt had provided jobs without “parchi-kharchi” and enacted a law against agents sending youth abroad through illegal “dunki routes”. He said Haryana had also set up a foreign cooperation department to help youth secure overseas employment through legal channels.Haryana public works minister Ranbir Singh Gangwa said the BJP’s support base in Punjab was expanding and claimed the state was ready for change.
