Margao: Congress and RG on Saturday announced that they have come together “in principle” for a pre-poll alliance to take on BJP in the 2027 assembly election.RG president Shavina Shirodkar and Congress state president Girish Chodankar told reporters that the over three-hour meeting that preceded the briefing centred on issues that would form the common minimum programme (CMP) of the alliance.“In principle, both parties have decided to come together and go to the polls together,” Chodankar said.Shirodkar said that the two parties exchanged the core issues that would form the basis for the CMP. “Following further deliberations on these issues, the CMP will be finalised,” she said, adding that seat-sharing talks would be taken up at a later stage.RG national president and MLA Viresh Borkar said the discussions concluded on a positive note, with strategic planning for the alliance also taken up during the meeting.Shirodkar said other opposition parties were welcome to join the alliance “if they are on the same page with us on our CMP”.However, Congress MP Viriato Fernandes demanded that AAP’s national convener, Arvind Kejriwal, first apologise to former state Congress president Amit Patkar over allegations made against him, before entering into talks with Congress.
