Chennai: Students who have created portfolios on platforms such as ‘GitHub’ and ‘Behance’ are likely to get weightage for admissions to computer science-related courses and creative courses such as visual communication. Some colleges wanted to conduct one-to-one counselling with students before the admissions to give them an idea about the programmes started in emerging areas.With Class XII exam results for both CBSE and state boards expected in the first week of May, many colleges are planning to launch online registration from next week.Madras Christian College is planning to give weightage for portfolios in admissions from the 2026-27 academic year.“Students who are interested in performing arts may not have high marks in the board exams. However, these students might have very impressive portfolios. So, we are planning to give a 10% weightage over and above the cut-off marks for portfolios from this year,” said Paul Wilson, principal of Madras Christian College.Likewise, those who write code, who have impressive portfolios will get weightage in BCA, BSc computer science programmes. The college has already launched online registration for the next academic year.Women’s Christian College is planning to conduct one-to-one counselling for postgraduate courses and UG courses such as commerce, computer science and corporate economics. “Parents and students are not aware of the scope and differences of emerging courses such as computer science with AI, data science and IT. So, faculty members will interact with parents and students to make them understand what they will study during the programme and job opportunities for such courses,” said Lilian Jasper, principal of the college.Stella Maris College is planning to launch online registration in the first week of May. “We are planning to launch a chatbot to clarify the doubts of students and parents. We are also conducting interviews with students about career options for certain programmes,” said Stella Mary, principal of the college.Ethiraj College for Women is planning to launch online registration from May 2. Colleges such as MCC and DG Vaishnav College have already launched the online registration. These colleges will start the admission process after the declaration of Class XII results.
