Pune: Congress MLA Vishwajeet Kadam on Saturday said no comparison should be drawn between Congress and the currently trending Cockroach Janta Party because the latter’s presence was limited to social media.“Congress has been working on the ground. Our party also has lakhs of workers from various castes and creeds. They have been working at the grassroot-level, therefore, the comparison is not valid,” Kadam said in Pune on the sidelines of his party’s event, where newly appointed Pune city presidents Deeptie Chawadary and Prashant Jagtap took charge.Interacting with reporters at the event, he said the following to the satirical platform floated by youngster Abhijeet Dipke showed the younger generation’s anger against the govt’s failure in governance. “The youth of the country is struggling because of issues like unemployment and inflation. Instead of finding a solution to their problems, some important persons holding constitutional posts are calling them cockroaches. The younger generation felt insulted and therefore, they are coming out and expressing anger on social media by supporting the Cockroach Janta Party,” Kadam told reporters.A satirical platform — ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ — floated by youngster Dipke got overwhelming response on various social media platforms. In a few days, its handles got followers in millions.Responding to the question if the “Cockroach Janta Party” was occupying the space of opposition parties like Congress in the country, Kadam said, “I do not think so. The Cockroach Janta Party has over two million followers, which is quite historic and commendable. But there cannot be a comparison between that platform and the Congress party.”Kadam also ruled out the possibility of Bangladesh or Nepal-like Gen-Z protests in the country because of the spurt in the Cockroach Janta Party’s following. “It is true that the younger generation is expressing its anger on social media against the govt’s failed governance, but our country’s democratic structure is very strong. It will not allow any violent reaction by any section of the society,” Kadam said.ends.
