LUCKNOW: Coal shortage and wet coal following heavy rains have hit thermal power generation in Uttar Pradesh, prompting limited power cuts in some areas during peak evening and night hours.Heavy rainfall and waterlogging have affected coal production and transportation from mines, reducing coal stocks at thermal power plants across several states.In UP, wet coal and reduced supplies have affected generation, while tripping of some power units due to technical and other reasons has further reduced availability.Power supply in UP remains normal during the day.However, during peak hours, limited power availability and constraints in purchasing electricity from power exchanges have led to restricted night-time rostering in rural areas, Bundelkhand, tehsil headquarters and nagar panchayats.District headquarters are being provided uninterrupted supply.Officials said efforts are underway to improve the situation. The state is coordinating with Coal India Limited and other agencies to increase coal supplies and ensure adequate power availability.
