Panchkula: Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini Monday launched a statewide cleanliness drive from Panchkula, aimed at taking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan message to every household and promoting public participation in maintaining cleanliness.Launching the campaign from Sector 20 market, Saini joined the cleanliness drive and appealed to citizens to make cleanliness a mass movement. He swept the area, collected garbage and loaded it onto a cart to spread awareness about scientific waste disposal. He also planted a sapling, stressing the importance of environmental conservation.Interacting with mediapersons, the chief minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Haryana on July 17. In view of the visit, the state govt has decided to conduct a comprehensive cleanliness campaign across Haryana from July 13 to July 17.Saini said ministers, MPs, MLAs, local representatives and party office-bearers would participate in the campaign across the state to strengthen the vision of a clean and developed India.Describing the Prime Minister’s visit as a matter of pride for Haryana, he said Modi would flag off a hydrogen-powered train and inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several development projects during his visit.The chief minister also said he has taken a pledge to plant at least 100 saplings wherever he visits.
