Jaisalmer: Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Wednesday announced a drought-relief package for Barmer and Jaisalmer, extending emergency drinking-water arrangements and tanker-based water supply in the affected areas till Dec 31.Addressing a public meeting at Bachhdau in Barmer, Sharma said the decision was taken in view of deficient rainfall and resulting problems faced by farmers, livestock owners and the general public in the two border districts.Sharma also authorised collectors of Barmer and Jaisalmer to approve drought-relief and other necessary contingency works worth up to Rs 1 crore. He further announced the opening of fodder depots in Barmer, Balotra and Jaisalmer and other areas facing fodder shortages.The tanker water supply, introduced as an emergency drinking-water measure during summer, will now continue until the end of Dec. Govt also plans to accelerate essential contingency works in areas that have received inadequate rainfall.
