CM Conrad lays foundation stone for multi-facility building at Tura

Shillong: A multi-facility building is coming up at Dakopgre, Tura, headquarters of West Garo Hills, with chief minister Conrad K Sangma, unveiling its foundation stone plaque on Saturday. He underscored that it was a “long-cherished aspiration” of the local people.The CM, who is also the local MLA, said, “In the past eight years, I, together with my colleagues and officers, have worked as a team to bring transformative changes in the state,” adding that it was encouraging to witness visible progress in development in Tura town.He said Rs 52 lakh has been sanctioned for the project, with funding shared equally between the chief minister’s special development fund and the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority.The CM suggested that the facility be utilised as a multi-purpose community hub, accommodating skill development programmes, youth clubs, indoor games, music and activity spaces, as well as coaching and study centres. “There should be spaces for all these activities so that the youth can benefit meaningfully,” he said.Conrad also stressed the importance of organising programmes for women, including training in tailoring, handicrafts, and food processing.
