Kolkata: Three class 9 students of a reputed co-educational English-medium school in Salt Lake were arrested for allegedly using artificial intelligence tools to create and circulate morphed, sexually explicit photos and videos of classmates, their parents and women teachers.Police said the case came to light last month after objectionable videos featuring several girls and teachers were allegedly circulated on WhatsApp groups among students. An investigation was launched following a complaint, leading to the arrest of one youth earlier this month.The three teenagers arrested on Sunday were picked up following a tip-off after allegedly evading police for several weeks, officers said.“The teenagers used a free AI video-generation engine to source photographs and videos of their friends and teachers from social media and convert them into fake but realistic-looking illicit videos,” a senior Bidhannagar City Police officer said.The accused have been booked under Sections 12 and 15 of the Pocso Act, provisions of the IT Act, and sections of the BNS related to sexual harassment and molestation.Police said the three were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which sent them to a juvenile home. Investigators are also examining the extent of circulation of the morphed content and whether others were involved in its creation or distribution.
