CJP's Mumbai protest flops, draws barely 150
CJP’s ‘Lehrao Tiranga’ rally at Azad Maidan

MUMBAI: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) staged its one-day ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ demonstration amid poor attendance at Azad Maidan on Friday. The rally drew a crowd that oscillated between 50 and 150 people through the day.The protest was held in solidarity with the recently arrested party co-conveners and founders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das.Supporters began arriving past 10 am under heavy police deployment at the venue gates. Protesters carried the national flag alongside portraits of Bhagat Singh and political placards critical of the administration.Literature and books were laid out on sheets across the grounds for passers-by and supporters.Rupali Kudtarkar of the CJP said: “We will keep protesting each day until Gyanesh Kumar resigns.”She added: “We had planned to organise the protest at the Gateway of India but the police insisted we continue the protest at Azad Maidan. We were allowed to take a photo at the gateway later in the evening.”While the morning hours saw smaller clusters of people, the numbers increased during speeches, before again dropping off in the afternoon.Speakers criticised the administration over the arrests and called for greater public awareness on the SIR exercise. The demonstration concluded by 5pm.
