Mumbai: A citizen-led awareness campaign on smart electricity meters was conducted recently across several locations in Mumbai, said civic activist G R Vora on Sunday. The initiative was spearheaded by social activist Kamlakar Shenoy and supported by concerned citizens seeking to address growing consumer grievances related to the installation of smart meters.The campaign was held at Matunga East, Byculla, Parel Village, Vile Parle, Santacruz East, Vashi, Dharavi, Thane, and Virar West. Besides educating residents about smart meters and their implications, the drive also invited written complaints from consumers who had either received notices from electricity providers or had their conventional meters replaced with smart meters without their consent.Organisers reported receiving around 100 written complaints from affected consumers. They stated that these representations would be submitted to the relevant authorities, including power distribution agencies, police authorities, and, if necessary, pursued through legal proceedings.“We are committed to protect consumer rights and ensure that public concerns are adequately addressed,” added Vora.
