Yamunanagar: The National Child Health Programme (Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram-RBSK), being implemented under the National Health Mission (NHM), has extended financial assistance of Rs 2.75 lakh for the surgery and treatment of a girl child suffering from a rare congenital disorder in Yamunanagar district.According to officials, Mafia, wife of Matloob Ali, a resident of Buria area in Yamunanagar, gave birth to a baby girl at District Civil Hospital in Jagadhri on Sept 16, 2025. The child was diagnosed with encephalocele, a rare congenital condition affecting the skull and brain. Soon after birth, the child was identified by the RBSK mobile health team, ASHA workers and hospital staff and was referred to the PGIMER, Chandigarh, for specialised treatment. However, due to lack of awareness, the parents could not continue regular follow-up visits, resulting in the child developing seizure-related complications. The case was subsequently brought to the notice of the NHM by the District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) at Civil Hospital, Yamunanagar. Acting on the directions of the state programme officer and mission director, health officials conducted continuous counselling sessions with the child’s parents and initiated the process of providing financial support through the RBSK fund.Yamunanagar DC Preeti handed over a cheque of Rs 2.75 lakh to the child’s parents to cover the cost of surgery and treatment. The family expressed gratitude to the govt and the health department for the assistance.Speaking on the occasion, DC Preeti urged residents to register children suffering from congenital disorders or serious health conditions with the DEIC office (Room No. 204) at Civil Hospital, Yamunanagar, or through the RBSK mobile health teams operating in their areas. She said the objective of the National Child Health Programme is to ensure that every child receives quality healthcare and that no child is deprived of treatment due to financial or other constraints.
