Gurgaon: MCG has issued show-cause notices to two senior officials after a surprise inspection at 11.30am on Wednesday allegedly found them absent from their offices without prior approval or intimation.According to the notices issued to an additional commissioner and an executive engineer on Wednesday, MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya took exception to the absence of the two officials, stating that neither had informed him or obtained permission beforehand. The notices describe the conduct as a potential lapse in due diligence and a disregard for official discipline.“Notices have been issued to the two senior officials because they were not present in the office on Wednesday,” a senior MCG official said. Both officials have been directed to submit written explanations within three days of receiving their respective notices. In the notice to the additional commissioner, Dahiya said such laxity was not expected from a senior Haryana civil services (HCS) officer. The conduct was described, prima facie, as showing a “lack of due diligence” and “disregard for official discipline”.The notice to the executive engineer states that if his explanation is not received within the stipulated period, it will be presumed that he has nothing to state in his defence, and further action may be considered under the applicable rules without another notice. The notices have also been forwarded to the department’s headquarters, while the commissioner has brought the matter to the attention of the state-level administration, potentially triggering further scrutiny under the applicable service rules.Officials said the move is expected to reinforce attendance monitoring and accountability among senior officers handling key civic functions and service delivery across the city. The additional commissioner, however, said he was attending another meeting convened by a senior official when the inspection took place.
