Chd civic body eyes record revenue in 2026–27

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh municipal corporation (MC) has pegged its revenue receipts at ₹461 crore for 2026–27 — the highest-ever projection in its history. The civic body had collected a little over ₹390 crore in 2025–26. The increased target is driven by expected gains across key heads, including water and garbage collection charges, property tax, advertisement, and electricity tax.Water charges and garbage collection are again projected to be the biggest contributors, with an estimated ₹198 crore this year, up from ₹188.54 crore last year — a rise of over ₹9 crore.Sources said with the 4th Delhi Finance Commission grant ruled out, the MC is under pressure to strengthen its own revenue streams. “Despite higher grant-in-aid from the UT administration, rising expenditure has made it imperative to maximise internal resource generation,” officials said.Facing persistent challenges in revenue realisation, the MC has widened its basket of income sources this year, adding new components while aiming to improve collections across existing ones to meet growing financial and developmental commitments.
