Jaipur: Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad Friday staged a protest at Shaheed Smarak in Jaipur over the acquittal of 40 accused in Dangawas case involving the killing of five Dalits in Nagaur in 2015.He met the families of the victims and addressed hundreds of members of the Dalit community who gathered at the protest site. Azad was preparing to lead a march from Shaheed Smarak towards Rajasthan Assembly. He also announced plans to undertake a foot march from Jaipur to Dangawas.Police deployed a heavy security contingent in view of the gathering, with barricades placed around the protest site. Azad, along with his supporters, remained seated outside Shaheed Smarak while a delegation met the district collector to raise the issue.Addressing the gathering, Azad said the Dangawas incident had left a deep wound and questioned why the CBI had failed to gather sufficient evidence in the case.“Some incidents cause pain and leave deep wounds. The Dangawas case is one of them,” he said, questioning the circumstances that led to the acquittal of the accused.“To ensure Dangawas does not happen again, we will have to crush feudal thinking. This is a democracy,” he added. On the acquittal of the accused, Azad said govt could have ensured stronger legal representation for the victims.“If they were not murdered, then did the earth swallow my brothers or did the sky swallow them?” Azad said, adding that he had intended to raise the issue in Parliament but could not do so because the House did not function.
