Chandigarh: A group of seven unidentified miscreants allegedly hurled petrol bombs at a house in Chandigarh’s Sector 25 during the early hours of Sunday, setting a parked scooter on fire and attempting to ignite the residential property. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed outside the house, and the Sector 11 police have launched an investigation.According to the complaint lodged by 62-year-old Tekchand Sonkar, a resident of Sector 25 who runs a meat shop in the area, he and his son were asleep when the incident occurred. He said he woke up after hearing a commotion outside the house. When he tried to step out, he saw several miscreants damaging his Activa scooter parked outside the residence.Sonkar alleged that the accused then ignited a petrol-filled bottle and threw it at the scooter, setting it ablaze. Another petrol bottle was allegedly hurled at the main door of the house, which also caught fire. However, the flames died down before spreading further, preventing major damage to the property. Neither Sonkar nor his son was injured in the attack.After setting the scooter and the entrance of the house on fire, the assailants fled the spot. Sonkar immediately alerted the police by calling the emergency helpline 112, following which a PCR team reached the scene.Police later examined CCTV footage from the area, which reportedly showed the attack taking place at around 3 am. The footage allegedly shows seven persons with uncovered faces arriving outside the house. Two of them can be seen damaging the scooter, while others allegedly ignited and threw inflammable l filled bottles before fleeing.Following the complaint, Sector 11 police inspected the scene, collected evidence, and began examining CCTV footage to identify the accused and ascertain the motive. Sonkar told police that he has no known enmity with anyone in the area and did not recognize any of the attackers. The investigation is ongoing.
