Chandigarh clears Rs 100cr boost for health, education

Chandigarh: In a boost for public healthcare and education infrastructure, the Project Appraisal and Approval Committee headed by chief secretary H Rajesh Prasad approved three major development projects in Chandigarh.These include construction of a 50-bedded critical care hospital at the Sub-District Hospital, Manimajra, an Ayush health and wellness centre with administrative block in Sector 28, and an additional academic block at Govt Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 27-C.The 50-bedded critical care hospital will be constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM).Financial assistance of Rs 16.6 crore has been sanctioned under PM-ABHIM for the project, which aims to strengthen critical healthcare infrastructure and enhance secondary and tertiary healthcare services for residents of Manimajra, Mauli Jagran and the IT Park area. The proposed facility is planned on a 2.8 acre site at Sub-District Hospital (SDH), Manimajra. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 82 crore.To strengthen Ayush healthcare services, an Ayush health and wellness centre and administrative block will be constructed in Sector 28 at an estimated cost of Rs 20.8 crore.The project is expected to improve access to Ayush healthcare services for residents of sectors 26, 28, 29 and 30, Bapu Dham Colony and adjoining areas.Administrative approval has also been granted for construction of an additional block at Govt Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 27-C, at a cost of Rs 8.4 crore.The ground plus two floors building will include 15 classrooms. It is aimed at addressing growing demand for educational infrastructure and improve the learning environment.These projects have been planned to address existing gaps in healthcare and educational infrastructure, improve accessibility of public services and cater to the growing needs of Chandigarh residents.
