Silchar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested a senior section engineer of the NFR’s Carriage and Wagon (C&W) department in Silchar for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a contractor.According to a CBI statement, the agency registered a case against the railway engineer, Kuntal Chakraborty, on Saturday following a complaint from a contractor, who alleged that a bill of around Rs 20 lakh was pending approval.The complainant alleged that when he approached the engineer on Friday for clearance of the bill, the official demanded 1% of the bill amount to process the payment.Acting on the complaint, CBI verified the allegations and allegedly caught the engineer red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant.The accused was produced before a court in Guwahati on Sunday.
