Case against two women cops for bribery

Hyderabad: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officers registered a case against a police inspector and a sub-inspector from a women police station in Vikarabad for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant. A criminal misconduct case has been registered against the duo, and they were served a notice.According to the ACB, on March 16, inspector B Saroja and SI H Rani demanded a bribe of Rs 60,000 from the complainant, later reducing it to Rs 40,000. In exchange, they agreed to issue notices only, rather than arresting the complainant and his family members, in a domestic harassment case recently registered under Sections 85 (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS.On March 23, the complainant paid Rs 20,000 to SI Rani in front of Inspector Saroja at the women police station. As the complainant was unable to arrange the remainder of the bribe and the officers continued to demand it, he approached the ACB and filed a complaint. Following preliminary verification, a case was filed against the accused officers under the Prevention of Corruption Act. “We have issued notices to both the accused as per the procedure,” said an ACB official.
