Cachar health dept sets up 24x7 control room as Barak swells

Silchar: Cachar’s health department has opened a 24×7 flood control room in Silchar to coordinate emergency medical services. The facility, set up at the Urban Primary Health Centre on Trunk Road, became operational immediately following an order from the joint director of health services. Residents can call 9394615401 for flood-related medical assistance. The control room will remain operational until further orders, monitoring health emergencies, handling public queries, deploying medical teams and coordinating with healthcare institutions and field workers.Multipurpose workers from health institutions in Sonai, Borkhola, Digorkashipur, Dholai, Lakhipur, Udharbond and Harinagar will staff it in rotational morning, afternoon and night shifts throughout the week.Officials said the measure would ensure timely medical intervention and prevent disruption of essential healthcare services in flood-hit areas as the Barak and its tributaries continue to swell.Residents, particularly those in low-lying and vulnerable areas, were urged to remain vigilant, follow district administration advisories and call the helpline immediately during medical emergencies.
