Silchar: Cachar district administration will set up a chief minister’s FIFA Fan Park at the DSA stadium in Silchar for public screening of FIFA World Cup matches from the quarter-final stage.The screenings will be held on a giant LED screen and entry will be free for the public, officials said. The fan park is scheduled to open on July 9 and continue till the final, which will be screened in India on July 20.Cachar deputy commissioner Rahul Kumar Gupta announced the arrangements at a press conference on Tuesday. He said the initiative was aimed at allowing football fans from across Barak Valley to watch the matches together in a safe and organised environment.“Football enjoys immense popularity in Barak Valley. This initiative will enable thousands of enthusiasts to come together and celebrate the spirit of the game,” Gupta said.Officials said the DSA stadium has been equipped with floodlights, sound systems and security arrangements. Drinking water and sanitation facilities will also be available at the venue.The administration said police, civic bodies and health officials would coordinate crowd management and emergency response during the screening period. Visitors have been urged to maintain discipline, avoid overcrowding and cooperate with officials on duty.Additional deputy commissioners Devid Kumar Borah and Jagriti Kalwar were also present at the media briefing and briefed reporters on operational arrangements and crowd-control measures.Officials said Silchar was included after the state govt decided to expand the public-screening initiative beyond Guwahati and Dibrugarh to Jorhat and Silchar.
