Cabinet approves full ITI fee waiver for girls

Times News NetworkPanaji: The cabinet on Wednesday approved the Mukhyamantri Sukanya Kaushalya Vikas Protsahan Yojana, granting a complete fee waiver for girls seeking admission to industrial training institutes (ITI) in the state.“The scheme is being implemented under the directorate of skill development. The fee for girls joining ITIs will be fully waived to promote their skilling. We want girls to take admissions to ITIs in a bigger way,” said chief minister Pramod Sawant.The cabinet also cleared a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Goa govt and Rail Vikas Nigam Pvt Ltd to develop infrastructure projects. Sawant said it follows the model of the state’s MoU with the Centre’s public sector undertaking, National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC), for the redevelopment of govt properties.Under the NBCC partnership, Goa govt will redevelop seven major properties in and around Panaji and Vasco under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, as part of a Rs 2,500 crore project to revamp older govt infrastructure.The cabinet further approved renovation and modification of public toilets through Sulabh International on a corporate social responsibility basis. Sawant said 19 toilets under the tourism department will be upgraded under the arrangement.
