Excavation at the factory in Dared GIDC as police search for the remains of Mavadiya, believed to be buried 12 feet deep

Rajkot: A missing-person inquiry has led to police in Jamnagar to allege that a woman and her lover poisoned her husband by mixing cyanide with his liquor and interred him under a concrete factory floor two years ago. Members of his family were repeatedly told that he had moved to Australia for work.Investigators are now excavating the suspected burial site in search of Jignesh Mavadiya’s remains, which police say is buried 12 feet deep, inside a factory in the Dared GIDC industrial estate. The wife of Jignesh Mavadiya, Prithvi, and her alleged lover, Nilesh, are suspected of murdering him and burying his body in the rented factory.Police began digging up the factory floor on Tuesday, after the accused disclosed details of the crime during questioning.A forensic team and senior police officials supervised the operation, which continued until late in the evening. Police said an FIR will be registered after the recovery and identification of the remains.Jignesh, believed to be around 35 years old, was in the furniture business. He is survived by two children.Assistant superintendent of police, Lalpur division, Pratibha said that after Jignesh’s disappearance, family members repeatedly questioned Prithvi about his whereabouts. She allegedly told relatives that Jignesh had gone to Australia for work and could not be contacted because mobile phones were not permitted at his workplace.Investigators said suspicions intensified a few days ago, when a relative planning to travel to Australia asked Prithvi for Jignesh’s contact details but she was unable to provide a phone number or any means of contacting him. When relatives threatened to approach police, Prithvi allegedly admitted that Jignesh had been killed two years ago with Nilesh’s help. After this revelation, Jignesh’s brother, Ashok Mavadiya, lodged a missing-person complaint at Jamnagar City “B” Division police station on Sunday.During questioning, Nilesh allegedly told police that Jignesh’s body was buried in the factory, which he had rented for just one month around the time of the alleged crime. Police then sealed the premises and launched an excavation.According to investigators, Prithvi used to work as a nurse and was allegedly in a relationship with Nilesh before her marriage. Police suspect the resumed their relationship later.Police sources said that despite her husband’s disappearance, Prithvi continued attending family functions and meeting relatives while maintaining that he was working in Australia. The excavation and forensic examination are continuing, with investigators expecting crucial evidence from the suspected burial site.
