Alwar: A murder suspect arrested from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr allegedly snatched a policeman’s pistol and fired at a Bharatpur police team while being brought back Thursday night, with one bullet hitting the bulletproof jacket of Chiksana station in charge Brajesh Kumar Meena, police said. The SHO escaped injury.Police said the accused, Praveen, 35, was shot in the leg in retaliatory firing. His accomplice, Balram, 20, fractured his leg after falling while trying to flee. Both were admitted to RBM Hospital in Bharatpur under police custody.Bharatpur SP Rajesh Meena said Praveen and Balram, both residents of Kasaut village in Deeg district, were arrested from Bulandshahr in connection with the July 4 murder of utensil trader Chandrabhan and the attempted murder of grocery trader Pramod Kumar Mittal. Chandrabhan later died during treatment in Jaipur.Police said the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime was also seized after the arrests.Earlier, on July 8, police had intercepted another accused, Mahesh, 28, near Girdharpur toll plaza in Sewar police station area on a tip-off. Mahesh allegedly opened fire while trying to escape and was shot in the leg in retaliatory firing before being arrested. Praveen and Balram had fled, prompting police to announce a reward of Rs 25,000 each for their arrest.According to police, the escort team stopped in the Chiksana police station area on Thursday night to allow the accused to use a toilet while bringing them back to Bharatpur. Praveen then allegedly snatched a service pistol from a policeman and fired two rounds. One bullet hit SHO Meena’s bulletproof jacket, while the second round misfired. Police said the jacket saved the SHO’s life.A case of attempt to murder and other offences has been registered at Chiksana police station. Police said all three accused are undergoing treatment under heavy security and will be formally arrested in the latest case after they recover.
