Gurgaon: A 26-year-old man was shot in the chest after a gun allegedly went off during a birthday celebration at a farmhouse in Bhondsi on Friday, leaving him injured but out of danger.The incident took place at Fillow Casa Farmhouse, where the victim, Chinkesh Dahiya, a resident of Dhanwapur, had gone with friends to celebrate his birthday. Around 1.30am, as the group was moving towards the swimming pool, a gunshot was heard, according to the complaint filed by the farmhouse manager, Sunil Kumar (31). Police are yet to ascertain the type of gun.According to police, a gun brought to the party by one of the guests discharged, and the bullet struck Dahiya on the right side of his chest. It was not immediately clear if the bullet hit him after someone fired it or if the weapon malfunctioned.Dahiya collapsed on the spot and was rushed to a nearby hospital before being referred to Medanta Hospital.Bhondsi police reached the spot after receiving information from the hospital and registered a case based on the complaint filed by Kumar.In his statement, Kumar said that around 35 people were present at the party, which had been booked a day earlier by a person identified as Chirag.“At the time of booking, I had explained the rules and regulations. During the party, I heard a gunshot. When I checked, Chinkesh had been hit. He got hit during firing in the party,” Kumar stated in his complaint.Initial statements suggest the firing may have been accidental, with no indication of prior enmity or a dispute.Investigators are questioning those present at the party and examining whether the firearm was licensed, in accordance with regulations, a police officer said. Officials added that the victim has not yet been able to clearly explain the sequence of events.A case has been registered under the Arms Act and Section 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Bhondsi police station. No arrests have been made so far, though police said suspects have been identified and further action will depend on the findings of the investigation.
