BTS member V says, "'Stanford's got the best pizza'" and sends fans rushing to their favourite restaurant in California

BTS is apparently a fan of Bay Area pizza. When the K-Pop supergroup performed at Stanford Stadium on Saturday, member V, whose full name is Kim Taehyung, praised the local pies from the stage.“Next time we’re at Stanford, we’ll eat that yummy pizza,” he told the audience, according to the San Francisco Chronicle and clips circulating on social media. “I think Stanford’s got the best pizza.”While the South Korean boy band did not name a specific restaurant, fans did some sleuthing and figured out they had dined at Redwood City’s Vesta on Monday, May 11, a week before the concert.

What BTS ordered and how the restaurant reacted

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, Courtney Borrone, who co-owns Vesta with her husband Peter Borrone, described the visit as “very surprising.” “We have a lot of tech, Silicon Valley big names here, but not really like celebrity status, so it was very exciting, and also they’re like the biggest pop band in the world,” she said. The band ordered the restaurant’s most popular pie, a sausage and honey pizza, along with carbonara pizza, pepperoni pizza and several small plates. They were accompanied by security, and the restaurant worked to maintain a “very professional, private experience” to ensure their comfort. Some diners did recognise the group as they were leaving and snapped photos with them.Vesta chose not to post about the visit at the time, hoping the group might return. They did just that, coming back on Monday, May 18, when Courtney says they enjoyed “a lot of desserts.”When V gave the pizza a shout-out at the concert, Courtney began receiving messages from friends sending her the footage. “It was kind of mind-blowing,” she said. “I can’t believe they brought up pizza that they ate. That’s crazy. But apparently V really loves pizza, it’s like his thing, so that makes a lot of sense that he might bring that up.”The shout-out had an immediate impact on the restaurant. Courtney says it was the busiest Monday ever as BTS fans flooded in wanting to try the pizza their favourite group had praised. “It’s been really crazy busy, with all these people in town for the show, visiting and wanting to eat their favourite pizza,” she said. Her husband Peter, was present during the band’s second visit. “He kind of helped to try and maintain their privacy, but he said it was awesome. They kept telling him, ‘You’re number one,'” Courtney added. What started as a quiet celebrity visit quickly turned into a viral moment, proving once again that when BTS speaks, fans listen
