BSc student, ITI passout held for fake loan app fraud

*Gorakhpur: A second-year BSc student and an ITI-qualified youth were arrested on Tuesday by Gorakhpur police for allegedly operating a cyber fraud racket that duped people across the country through fake loan applications, police said.According to Kotwali SHO Chhatrapal Singh, the accused have been identified as BSc second-year student Manjeet Kumar (22) and ITI passout Vijay Vishwakarma (23). Investigation revealed that Manjeet allegedly created fake social media pages and loan application platforms promising loans at low interest rates.Targets were asked to pay registration, processing and insurance charges online. After collecting the money, the accused neither sanctioned loans nor refunded the amounts, police said.Vijay emerged as key link in the operation. Police said he allegedly arranged bank accounts in the names of relatives, friendsand acquaintances in exchange for a 10% commission. Hundreds of such accounts were reportedly used to receive proceeds of cyber fraud before the money was withdrawn through ATMs and distributed among gang members.Authorities said several of these accounts have since been frozen due to their involvement in cybercrime transactions, causing legal complications for account holders.Police recovered mobile phones, ATM cards, SIM cards, banking documents and cash from the accused.
