Ghaziabad: Residents have urged authorities to repair damaged infrastructure at Moksha Ghar, the cremation ground along Hindon, citing safety concerns for grieving families. They pointed to broken tin sheds, missing safety railings on ramps and staircases, and the frequent presence of stray animals on the premises.They wrote to the municipal commissioner and the chief engineer (construction) on the matter, highlighting the safety risks for bereaved families.Harminder Singh, a resident of Niti Khand 2, Indirapuram, said he recently visited the site and found that many of the tin sheds that are meant to provide shelter are severely damaged.He added that the rainfall on June 23 had worsened the situation, as rainwater seeped into the area where recent cremations took place. “This caused immense emotional distress for families already grieving their loved ones. The situation requires immediate attention,” said Singh, who wrote to Ghaziabad municipal commissioner on the matter.Singh also emphasised the urgent need for safety railings to be installed on the stairs and ramps leading to the cremation ground. “Without these railings, there’s the threat of potential accidents, particularly among senior citizens and differently abled individuals. I urge the municipal corporation to take swift action to ensure the safety and dignity of those who visit this ground,” Singh said.

Residents also urged regular maintenance of the cremation ground. “We hope that the municipal corporation will prioritise these repairs and enhancements to uphold the spiritual significance of the cremation ground while ensuring public safety,” said Sunil Kumar, a resident of Indirapuram.The Hindon cremation ground (Moksha Dham) on the banks of the Hindon River in Ghaziabad features over 50 cremation platforms and handles dozens of cremations daily.
