Broadcast live all proceedings of assembly, MNM tells TVK govt

Chennai: In a statement on Saturday, MNM vice president A G Maurya said there was a “selective approach” to Friday’s live telecast and urged the ruling TVK govt to adopt full openness in its legislative sessions. During Friday’s assembly session, certain segments were broadcast live, including the reading of obituary resolutions and the debates surrounding state govt’s resolution opposing the construction of the Mekedatu dam. The live feed was, however, cut immediately after, leaving the subsequent discussions and debates on the governor’s address completely off the air for the public.Maurya reminded govt that the demand for a fully televised assembly session is not new, noting that MNM has been consistently advocating for complete live broadcasts for several years. “Citizens have an absolute right to know and witness every happening inside the legislative assembly,” he said.
