Panaji: Maritime School at Britona will offer youth in Goa opportunities to gain education and hands-on training in yacht operations, water sports, jet ski operation, kayak/sea bob handling and recreational scuba diving, among other courses, with state govt approving 24 additional maritime and skill development courses.State govt has granted approval to Goa Institute of Maritime Excellence (GIME) Foundation to commence the 24 courses during the transition phase from its temporary campus at Kadamba Plateau, Old Goa.The courses include basic safety course for inland vessel personnel, revalidation course for deck/engine discipline, personal craft operator up to 203 metres, power boat operator for inland canoes (less than 040 HP), high speed craft operator, jet ski operator, crowd management and passenger safety, water sports trainer, assistant water sports trainer, master (coastal) of yachts (sail or power) and master (open sea) yachts (sail or power).Other courses include master (ocean going) yachts (sail or power), lifeguard pool, advanced lifeguard open water, rescue operation head, beach captain, pool maintenance worker, swimming instructor, safety, rescue, firefighting and first aid course, yacht deck crew course, fishing trawler skipper navigation course, dinghy sailing, kayak/sea bob and recreational scuba diving.Govt also allowed the continued conduct of the mandatory new entrants training course (NETC) and advanced refresher training course (ARTC) at the existing govt-approved fee structure until the permanent GIME campus at Britona becomes operational. It authorised Captain of Ports to issue necessary administrative orders to implement the proposal, subject to applicable statutory requirements and the terms and conditions of the concession agreement.
