BRD Medical College to get 100-bed Level-1 Trauma Centre

Gorakhpur: A 100-bed Level-1 Trauma Centre built at a cost of around Rs 38.02 crore is being developed at BRD Medical College, officials said on Wednesday.Built over 6,510 square metres, the three-storey building has achieved 36% completion so far, and would be operational within a year, officials said. The facility will provide advanced trauma and critical care services.Officials said that patients suffering from severe road accident injuries, head trauma, coma and other life-threatening conditions will have access to specialised treatment without being shifted between multiple departments.BRD medical college principal Dharmendra Kumar said the centre will feature four modular operation theatres, intensive care units, emergency wards, diagnostic facilities and other support services. The integrated setup will enable doctors to provide faster treatment during the “golden hour” following serious injuries, improving survival chances. He added that once operational, the Level-1 Trauma Centre will significantly reduce the need to refer critically ill patients to hospitals in larger cities. The medical college currently runs a 50-bed trauma centre that caters to patients from eastern Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring Bihar. The new facility will double treatment capacity, ease pressure on existing infrastructure and strengthen emergency medical care across the region.
