Border haat at Pangsau Pass resumes operations after 6 years

Itanagar: The border haat at Pangsau Pass along the India-Myanmar border officially resumed operations on Monday after a six-year hiatus, marking a key milestone towards reviving cross-border commerce and tourism in Arunachal Pradesh.Located at Pangsau Pass in Changlang district, the market will operate on the 10th, 20th and 30th of every month. The reopening is anticipated to bolster traditional trade relations between India and Myanmar, streamline regulated border commerce, and generate fresh economic opportunities for local border communities.Nampong MLA Laisam Simai visited the venue on the opening day to interact with traders, visitors, and local administration officials. He said the resumption of trading would strengthen bilateral ties and foster economic growth in the region.“Delighted to share that the market at border haat, Pangsau Pass, Nampong resumed today after a gap of six years,” Simai said, adding, “The market will be opened three days in a month. It will significantly boost border tourism and strengthen the trade relations between the two countries. Everyone is welcomed.”Prior to its closure, the Pangsau Pass border haat served as a vibrant trading point, allowing local villagers from both sides of the international border to exchange locally produced agricultural goods, traditional handicrafts, and daily essentials under barter and regulated trade protocols.Local community leaders and vendors welcomed the reopening, saying it is expected to help restore livelihoods and attract visitors interested in the historic trade route and cultural exchanges in the area.
