Guwahati: Bullet-riddled bodies of four Tangkhul Naga civilians killed at a remote village along the India-Myanmar border in Manipur’s Kamjong district were recovered on Friday, a day after the incident.A source said the bodies were found at an isolated spot near the international border in Pilong village after police and villagers conducted an extensive search.The bodies have been brought to the Kamjong district hospital for post-mortem, police said.The four civilians were allegedly shot by members of the Myanmar-based Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B).CM Y Khemchand Singh condemned the killings, saying that “such acts of violence have no place in our society and will not be tolerated”.Local MLA L Keishing, who visited the village, alleged that militants from Myanmar attacked Pilon villagers, killing four unarmed civilians. The NPF legislator urged the central and the state govts to strengthen border security.Awangbou Newmai, the state president of Naga People’s Front, alleged that members of KNA-B were behind the killings. He appealed to all communities to “shun violence” and “co-exist as peaceful neighbours”.A suo motu case has been registered at Chassad police station in Kamjong district.During the day in Ukhrul district, the Army and security forces recovered and destroyed three IEDs.According to the Army, the IEDs had been laid with complex initiation mechanisms and posed a potential threat to civilians and property. The security forces completely sanitised the area before carrying out a controlled in situ demolition of the IEDs, thereby eliminating the threat, the Army said.
