Mumbai: A proposal to cancel the existing cinema amenity on a 1,005-square-metre plot housing Alexandra Cinema in Byculla and change its use to a facility and include the plot in the ‘Residential/Residential Use Zone (R Zone)’ will come up for approval before BMC Improvement Committee on Wednesday. According to the proposal, Alexandra Cinema has been closed since 2007. Due to the current condition of the premises and changing trends in the entertainment sector, running the cinema has not remained economically viable. Besides, the building is in a very dilapidated condition, and its condition is deteriorating day by day.
