BJP PLANS DISTRICT-LEVEL REVIEW MEETINGS AFTER POLL SETBACK

Chennai: Against the backdrop of the BJP’s poor performance in the 2026 Assembly elections, where the party won only one of the 27 seats it contested, the Tamil Nadu unit has decided to hold district-level office-bearers’ meetings across the state from May 24 to May 29 as part of an outreach and review exercise.Apart from State BJP president Nainar Nagenthran, union minister L Murugan, former state president K Annamalai, and senior leaders Tamilisai Soundararajan, Pon Radhakrishnan, Prof Ram Sreenivasan and Vanathi Srinivasan would participate as special guests and lead the meetings. The decision follows Nainar Nagenthran’s meeting with BJP national president Nitin Nabin in New Delhi on Friday, where discussions were held on the party’s organisational plans and political strategy in Tamil Nadu.Earlier on Thursday, there was a two-day consultative meeting in Coimbatore chaired by BJP national general secretary (organisation) B L Santhosh, where party leaders discussed reasons for the electoral setback and the party’s future course. The meeting also saw discussions over a section of AIADMK rebel MLAs claiming they were no longer part of the NDA. However, Nainar later told reporters that AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami had not made any such statement.
