Sangrur: The BJP on Friday outlined its strategy for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections as its state executive targeted the AAP govt over law and order, drug trafficking, farm procurement and alleged administrative failures. The meeting, held in chief minister Bhagwant Mann’s political stronghold of Sangrur, was chaired by Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon. BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh and other senior leaders attended. Both Dhillon and Chugh accused the AAP govt of ceding control to drug cartels, gangsters and extortionists. Referring to the recent daylight murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh alias Jhota in Mansa and the killing of Bikramjit Singh in Batala, they alleged that people opposing narcotics networks were being killed without fear of law enforcement.Chugh also cited grenade attacks on police stations, advisories cautioning personnel against travelling in uniform and the installation of iron grilles outside police stations as signs of a deteriorating security situation. He said the BJP would work to dismantle Punjab’s drug networks and remove the current govt from power by the end of 2029.Kewal Singh Dhillon criticised the AAP govt over paddy procurement, alleging that inadequate mandi infrastructure had left farmers struggling with knee-deep waterlogging after recent rainfall. He said Haryana’s BJP govt provides assured minimum support prices for 24 crops and price-assurance mechanisms for vegetables and horticultural produce. Dhillon also claimed that Gurugram generates more GST revenue than Punjab and alleged that the state had failed to effectively utilise over Rs 17 lakh crore received from the Centre under various development heads since 2014.He further criticised the govt’s publicity campaigns and claimed that residents in districts, including Faridkot, had put up “For Sale” boards outside their homes due to extortion and migration pressures. The executive also questioned the government’s decision to reinstate a drug inspector to a sensitive posting despite ongoing vigilance inquiries into alleged disproportionate assets, gold holdings and suspicious bank accounts. It further referred to alleged unresolved links in cases involving dismissed police personnel, including former AIG Rajjit Singh.Punjab BJP leaders said the party was strengthening its booth-level organisation in both rural and urban areas and preparing to contest all 117 Assembly constituencies on its own. However, they said any decision on a pre-poll alliance would be taken by the BJP’s central parliamentary board in New Delhi.
